I count myself among the many who groan at automatic password changes, passwords that aren\u2019t easy to memorize\u2026and just about any security measure that makes things less \u2018handy\u2019. I do it because I have to do it\u2026and probably because I tell others they have to do it.<\/p>\n

But the recent hacking at Target, is reinforcement. http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/business\/money\/la-fi-mo-target-encrypted-pin-breach-20131227,0,1295751.story#axzz2pJ8FvT3e<\/a><\/p>\n

The fact is\u2026we (and you) now are obligated as web providers, employers, clients and folks who manage other\u2019s data. The simple things do matter and as much as we want to pass them by…don\u2019t do it.<\/p>\n

Here are a few simple musts \u2014 I\u2019m sure our tech team will have many to add:<\/p>\n

Make your password complex \u2013 and don\u2019t be obvious
\nDon\u2019t give everyone access to your network -have separate ones where possible. Change that password often
\nDon\u2019t join just any network
\nDon\u2019t upload files that you are not sure of to your network, website or internal file system
\nDon\u2019t turn-off the auto-logoff on your computer\/site.
\nDON\u2019T open the emails you don\u2019t know \u2013 even if you are curious.<\/p>\n
